Commissary Connect is BC’s First Regional Food Hub
Commissary Connect with the BC Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the University of British Columbia and industry partners, are developing the BC Food Hub Network, consisting of an Innovation Centre at UBC, as well as multiple regional food processing centres across British Columbia.
Commissary Connect’s Laurel Street facility in South Vancouver is the first regional full-scale food innovation and processing hub in the Network and is serving as a Pilot and Demonstration Site.
Commissary Connect’s most recent facility features:
- 24/7 access to shared processing facilities and equipment
- Shared-use technology for scheduling, billing usage of equipment, and asset monitoring
- HACCP-Ready production floor with scaled up amenities and equipment
- Separate Entry level kitchen
- Office space with teaching/meeting area
- Business advisory and product development services
- Fully networked with Commissary Connect other facilities
The hub was built using Commissary Connect’s expertise from its proven success record and our patent pending technology. Successes and lessons learned from Commissary Connect’s pilot hub along with our technology will help build and connect future regional food hubs in other communities that will create the B.C. Food Hub Network.
Creation of the B.C. Food Hub Network is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Feed BC mandate pillar, and culmination of Commissary Connect’s continuing efforts in promoting entrepreneurs and local food for the past seven years.
Commissary Connect along with the Ministry of Agriculture is committed to encouraging more food and beverage processing in the B.C., which supports local economies, job creation and farming families in all regions.
